Biography
Da In Choi is a PhD student in the Gender Studies department at UCLA. Her research examines the figure of singmo (domestic workers) in South Korea during urban development. Singmo’s perspectives critique the home and family as a simultaneous site of social stratification and social mobility opportunities that shape and are informed by socio-political inequalities and postcolonial histories of development. Her work on gender, domestic work, and social reproduction has been published or is forthcoming in the Journal of Women’s History, Verge: Studies in Global Asia and Yŏsŏng Iron (Feminist Theory in Korean).
